More Than 16,000 Pounds of Clothes Washed During LaundryCares Event at Laundry City

The Coin Laundry Association’s LaundryCares Foundation – along with more than 60 volunteers from 13 states – hosted a free laundry day on July 28 in Baltimore.

“The LaundryCares’ free wash day really rocked Baltimore,” said volunteer Brian Grell of Eastern Funding, based in New York City. “Not even a periodic deluge of rain could put a damper on the spirit of this event.”

In all, more than 200 families registered for the free laundry day, with 350 wash cycles completed, resulting in more than 16,000 pounds of laundry being processed, according to Grell.

The four-hour event took place at the state-of-the-art, 10,000-square-foot Laundry City. In addition, the store – which is owned by John Pinnock – donated a dollar to the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Cancer Unit for each person who came in to do their laundry during this free wash promotion.

“There are so many people to thank, including the fine employees of the host, Laundry City – as well as the many vendors that participated in the event,” Grell added. “Add free food, beverages, ice cream, a live DJ, raffle prizes and goody bags to the mix, and you’ve got yet another amazing LaundryCares event.”

“LaundryCares’ Free Laundry Day in Baltimore was a smashing success, thanks to our generous donors and the dozens of amazing volunteers on-site who worked so hard and gave their best to the neighborhood,” said CLA President and CEO Brian Wallace. “One couldn’t help being overwhelmed by the gratitude and positive response we received from the hundreds of people who enjoyed the free laundry but really responded to the smiles and attitude of service delivered by our volunteers. My heartfelt thanks to all who participated during this amazing event that left me even more proud to be associated with LaundryCares and this industry.”

The event at Baltimore’s Laundry City is part of a larger concerted advocacy program by the LaundryCares Foundation to provide laundry services and education to those in need, and to offer support to communities that have long supported the self-service laundry industry. The foundation was established by the Coin Laundry Association in 2006.

“Free laundry days are the highlight of what LaundryCares does each and every year,” Wallace explained. “The impact a single load of laundry can make on a family isn’t lost on us, and it’s humbling to see the good it does for a community. Our goal is to continue to host free laundry days and to reach more families in need across the nation.”

Those interested in giving back to their communities are asked to consider participating in the form of a tax-deductible, charitable donation to the LaundryCares Foundation. For information on how to donate, please visit: coinlaundry.org/advocacy/laundrycares.
