Big_Fish_1.jpgThe social group known as Big Fish held its annual outing this past September, with an aim toward fishing, fellowship and fundraising. This year’s gathering of laundromat industry veterans yielded plenty of lunkers at Tetu Island Lodge in northwest Ontario, but the biggest catch of the week was the incredible $32,000 raised from among the 26 anglers for a charity that hits close to home.

What began as a group of “laundry friends”going fishing together more than a decade ago has now grown into one of the largest annual fundraisers supporting the industry’s LaundryCares Foundation.

“We all believe in the LaundryCares’ mission of giving back to the neighborhoods that support the vended laundry industry, so it’s only natural that we use our annual fishing trip as an opportunity to raise funds for the cause we care so much about,” said Jeff Deal, one of the trip’s volunteer organizers.

Many of the Big Fish ’17 donors also have served as volunteers at LaundryCares’ Free Laundry Day events, which provide free laundry, food, books and literacy resources to families in need across the U.S.
