The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is currently working with the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of the Treasury, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Federal Housing Finance Agency to help renters during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To assist those who may be having difficulty paying their rent or mortgage, the CFPB has pulled together various resources at: consumerfinance.gov/housing.
In addition, renters and landlords can apply for money from the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Emergency Rental Assistance program. The funds are being distributed by state and local organizations to their local communities. This money can be used to help pay for rent, utility bills and even moving costs.
“As you know, the pandemic has left many struggling to pay their bills,” explained Erin Scheithe, senior program coordinator for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. “We’re hoping that laundromat owners will share the availability of our resources with their customers, as well as with their employees.”
