On Saturday, February 23, The Wash House Laundromats will host a LaundryCares Free Laundry Day at its two locations in Durham, N.C., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The two locations are:
- The Wash House, 2000 Chapel Hill Rd., Durham, N.C.
- The Wash House, 1839 Liberty St., Durham, N.C.
In addition to free laundry services and detergent, this LaundryCares event will include free food and fun activities for children and adults to enjoy.
Millions of families in underserved communities visit laundromats each week to fulfill the basic need of having clean clothes. For many of these families, fulfilling this basic need can often be a challenge. With that in mind, The Wash House Laundromats, in conjunction with the LaundryCares Foundation, is excited and honored to offer a day of free laundry services for those living in the neighborhood. Guests can bring an unlimited amount of laundry to the event and will receive free laundry products to help clean their clothes.
Additionally, The Wash House Laundromats are partnering with literacy organizations Book Harvest and Libraries Without Borders to provide educational opportunities for children during their visit to the laundromat. There will be a ribbon cutting for a new “Wash and Learn” space for children. While the guests do their laundry, children will be safely entertained with several supervised enrichment activities, including reading, face-painting and more. Book Harvest will provide books for all kids who attend.
“The Wash House Laundromats are excellent host locations for such a meaningful and charitable event,” said Brian Wallace, executive director of the LaundryCares Foundation. “The owners have big hearts, and the way they run their business serves to improve the perception of laundromats by developing beautifully appointed stores that offer learning engagement resources for their patrons’ families.”
The LaundryCares Foundation is dedicated to helping laundromat owners provide services through their stores, such as Free Laundry Days and childhood literacy resources to families in underserved communities.
