The LaundryCares Foundation has announced it will host a Free Laundry and Literacy Day event on October 10 at four Clean Rite Center laundromat locations throughout the greater New York area, encompassing the communities of Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.
Local residents will be able to enjoy complimentary laundry services and cleaning products, as well as free food and fun activities for children and adults from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The participating Clean Rite Center locations include:
- 8905 Flatlands Ave., Brooklyn
- 314 McDonald Ave., Brooklyn
- 50-14 Roosevelt Ave., Queens
- 1240 E. Tremont Ave., Bronx
All of the participating Clean Rite Centers feature LaundryCares’ Family Read, Play & Learn spaces to help children build language and early learning skills in a comfortable, engaging and language-rich environment.
The RPL spaces are part of an initiative of the LaundryCares Foundation and Too Small to Fail, which together form the Laundry Literacy Coalition to help support young children’s early language development and to bridge the child literacy gap across the country.
Local partners, including librarians from the New York Public Library, will be onsite at all four event locations to provide interactive literacy activities and educational resources for families. Children will be able to play educational games, participate in reading activities and receive free books from Scholastic to take home.
In addition, those attending this event will be able to sign up for digital programs by Qualitas of Life Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides financial education to Hispanic individuals and their families. The foundation offers lessons on using online banking, opening bank accounts and protecting finances to foster financial stability.
“Our organization is dedicated to helping under-resourced neighborhoods by making literacy and learning attainable,” said Dan Naumann, executive vice president of the LaundryCares Foundation. “The Clean Rite Center Free Laundry and Literacy Day events fall within Hispanic Heritage month – an important recognition of a growing U.S. population with children and families who often find it challenging to have basic needs met.”
