PWS – The Laundry Company has opened its new headquarters in the Hollydale neighborhood of South Gate, Calif. The new office is located on a 60,000-square-foot lot, which is also home to the local county library. In addition to the complete restoration of an historic building, PWS commissioned a mural to celebrate the history and culture of South Gate and signed a long-term lease with the library to ensure it will remain in the community for many years to come.
“We are thrilled to officially open our doors in South Gate,” said Brad Steinberg, co-owner of PWS. “The investment in this important renovation project represents our commitment to being strong corporate citizens of South Gate.”
Prior to relocating the company’s headquarters from Commerce, Calif., PWS completely remodeled a 25,000-square-foot retail building that was constructed in 1946. As part of the restoration of the building, which had been vacant for nearly 10 years, PWS commissioned local artist Don Lamkin to paint a 55-foot-long mural that pays tribute to the city of South Gate on the exterior of the building. A replica of the mural is also featured inside PWS’ office.
Lamkin, a retired firefighter, is a South Gate native, whose father was the executive director of the South Gate/Rio Vista YMCA and later served as the manager of the South Gate Chamber of Commerce. The mural will be completed in May and will showcase logos and icons of local businesses throughout the city. To develop the concept for the mural, Lamkin researched past and present community icons and met with city officials, staff, council members and key stakeholders.
In addition to securing the future of the Hollydale County Library with a long-term lease, PWS is also contributing $30,000 to help fund improvements for the library.
“The Hollydale Library has served the local community since the 1960s,” said Brad Pollack, co-owner of PWS. “As part of our investment in South Gate, we wanted to ensure that it continues to do so for years to come.”
The renovation of the Garfield Avenue property and opening of the office is the first of many initiatives that will benefit South Gate residents. PWS plans to open a state-of-the-art laundromat connected to the office space this summer, which will provide an important service to the neighborhood. The laundromat will feature a modern design, as well as the latest amenities and innovative laundry technologies.
“We are fully embracing South Gate as our new home,” Steinberg said. “By continuing to add resources and services, PWS will generate jobs and business opportunities for the community.”
Founded in 1968, PWS also maintains offices in Redwood City and San Diego, and has representation in Nevada.
