My store handles a good amount of wash-dry-fold laundry, and lately I’ve been using a lot of detergent and softener. When I approached my laundry attendants about this issue, they told me that many of the customers indicated that they wanted their clothes to smell better. As a result, my attendants are including more of these laundry products into the wash cycle to achieve a stronger, more “perfume-like” scent. I want my WDF customers to be happy, but detergent and softener are expensive. What should I do?
First of all, if you attendants are using too much product, especially softener, the product won’t properly rinse out of the garments – and a number of people have allergies to certain scents. At the end of the day, softeners were developed to soften the fibers of garments and linens, not to add a specific scent to them.
In addition, when fabric softeners are not full rinsed out of laundered items, they can create waterproofing properties within the fibers the repel moisture. As a result, advice your attendants – especially when washing bedding and towels – to use less softener.
If you have certain wash-dry-fold customer who want more of a scent on their finished laundry, I suggest using scent beads. They will provide you with better control over the scent of the laundry without interfering with the overall quality of the wash.
