On April 15 – which is National Laundry Day – the more than 70 Laundromax and Clean Rite Center laundromat locations across New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Ohio each will give away one free laundry load to customers.
Obtaining a free laundry load will be simple, according to Felicia Galitsky, chief of staff for Laundry Capital Co. LLC, parent company of Clean Rite Centers and Laundromax.
“Customers are encouraged to come into one of our Clean Rite Center or Laundromax locations and ask an attendant for a free laundry load,” she explained.
In addition, for every customer online pre-registration (https://bit.ly/ntllaundryday) received, another free laundry load will be donated to All Sisters Evolving Together (ASET) and Safe in My Brother’s Arms (SIMBA).
These organizations are dedicated to enriching the lives of New York City high school students who are homeless and living in temporary housing. SIMBA and ASET offer support services and environments to encourage achievement and success. Through Laundry Capital’s donation of free laundry loads to these organizations, more students will benefit from clean clothes, which has been linked to improved school attendance, according to the United Federation of Teachers.
“We are so thankful to receive the laundry card donations,” said Wayne Harris, Students in Temporary Housing regional manager. “SIMBA and ASET are two programs facilitated in partnership with Community Counseling and Mediation. They have been serving homeless high school students for 14 years. Our primary focus is to support positive school attendance. When we gift the parents of our students with the laundry cards, they are ecstatic.”
“SIMBA estimates that more than 10 percent of New York City public school students are homeless and in temporary housing,” Galitsky added. “We hope to donate 10,000 free loads to these organizations as a result of our National Laundry Day philanthropic campaign.”
Laundry Capital is involved in a number of youth-enrichment initiatives, including a six-month pilot program with the United Community Schools, whereby Clean Rite donates a portion of laundry cards purchased by schools to help reduce student absenteeism.
