Telecommunications giant Verizon recently shot a holiday commercial, which is part of the company’s national advertising campaign, at Laundrywood, an 8,000-square-foot self-service laundry based in Los Angeles.
Flaunting custom wall art and holiday décor, Laundrywood is a card-operated, eco-focused laundry occupying a renovated early 20th century building. Just minutes from Hollywood and Paramount Studios, it has become a model of the economic revitalization occurring in this up-and coming part of L.A.
“We kept everything shiny and fun in the back of the store,” said owner Gary Thompson. “In the front of the store, there’s a granite WiFi counter with charging stations for laptops, tablets and smartphones. It’s a destination – a place to do laundry, have fun, chat and hang out.”
As it turned out, Laundrywood apparently is also a great destination for filming fun TV commercials.
“We shut down the store for three days for production,” Thompson explained. “It was a lot of fun, and once it was over, the crew cleaned up and we couldn’t tell they had ever been here.”
